The Waunakee Community School District in Wisconsin receives a $1,044,188 check!
WAUNAKEE, WI., (September 2025) — The Waunakee Community School District in Wisconsin received a $1,044,188 reimbursement from the IRS for clean energy technologies installed at Waunakee Intermediate School and the new Heritage Elementary School. In May 2024, both schools had solar energy systems installed, while the new Heritage Elementary also had ground-source heat pumps installed to provide highly efficient heating and cooling. Both technologies qualify for energy tax credits through a funding mechanism called Elective Pay.




The new Heritage Elementary School opened in September 2024. The district partnered with Vogel Brothers Building Co. for the construction at both schools, and with tax firm Wipfli to prepare the IRS filing, submitted on July 23, 2025. The reimbursement check was received on September 29, 2025.
Looking ahead, the new Waunakee Middle School, scheduled to open in Fall 2026, will also include solar panels and ground-source heat pumps.
