Connecting the Dots on Extreme Weather and Student Health with Former Senator Bill Frist in Tennessee
In September, Jonathan Klein, Undaunted’s Co-Founder and CEO, joined nearly 150 educators, researchers, and community leaders gathered at Connecting the Dots: The Environment’s Impact on Student Success. Co-hosted by Tennessee SCORE and former Senator Bill Frist, this event symposium explored the question: What does it take to ensure students thrive in the face of a changing environment?
Drawing on national and Tennessee-based research and practice, the event examined how environmental factors play a role in education and how leaders across sectors can work together toward solutions that support student success and community resilience.
In Tennessee and nationally, extreme weather events are negatively impacting students’ physical health, mental well-being, and academic outcomes. Solutions exist, and how schools are positioned to lead climate solutions by modernizing infrastructure, cutting emissions, and strengthening community resilience.
Nature-based learning, as well as cross-curricular learning about the changing environment, supports student success.
Preparing students for a workforce shaped by environmental change opens doors to opportunity, leadership, and innovation.
Centering environmental considerations in policy and practice strengthens Tennessee’s economy, culture, and quality of life.
Cross-sector, nonpartisan collaboration is essential as we support students to build and participate in a resilient, future-ready Tennessee.
We’re grateful to Tennessee SCORE and former Senator Bill Frist and for the invitation to participate in this event and look forward to continuing these conversations with leaders nationally and across Tennessee.
