Seal of Climate Literacy Advances in California

Senate Bill 1048 (Becker) cleared the Assembly Education Committee with unanimous, bipartisan support, moving the California Seal of Climate Literacy one step closer to becoming law.

Senator Josh Becker, the bill’s author, and Kirk Anne Taylor, Executive Director of Climate Action Pathways for Schools, made the case for the Seal of Climate Literacy in a Capitol Weekly op-ed.

They shared how a Seal of Climate Literacy would help to "build and scale access to more authentic, relevant learning experiences," like paid internships and apprenticeships with industry partners. "Those experiences – analyzing schools’ energy consumption, working on HVAC systems, understanding sustainable engineering in real buildings – are exactly the kinds of hands-on learning the Seal is designed to recognize and expand access to.”
