Schools can earn tax credits for clean energy projects - something that the private sector and households have been able to do for years. These technologies can improve aging facilities, lower operating costs, and make schools healthier for students. While the July 2025 federal budget reconciliation law introduced new changes to many of the tax credits available to schools, checks from the IRS are continuing to arrive in the mailboxes of districts nationwide.

Bardstown Independent School District celebrated the receipt of a $2,485,704 check for ground-source heat pumps installed at Bardstown Polytechnic and Middle Schools. The district worked with engineering and performance contracting firm CMTA, Sherman Carter Barnhart, and Codell Construction.
Springfield Public Schools in Missouri receives a $4,129,879 check!
Springfield Public Schools received $4,129,879.26 from the IRS for installing ground-source heat pumps at Carver Middle School, Sequiota and Disney Elementary Schools. The district partnered with engineering and performance contracting firm Veregy to pursue a Guaranteed Energy Savings Performance Contract (GESPC) on the projects.

Ashland Public Schools celebrated the receipt of a $2,513,940 check for ground-source heat pumps installed at David Mindess Elementary School. The district worked with Owner’s Project Manager firm Vertex, and construction firm Shawmut Design and Construction on the project.
